Things do not always go my way. that’s super contrary to what most people think, although i do admit that i am a heavily favored person. Few people would know that I am often at the chasm between mercurial forces. I first heard of the term from one of my co-tutors (English for Koreans). She said that I was a heavily mercurial person, meaning, unpredictable and completely psychotic in moodiness. Ouch, yes, but liar I am not, so I will not really deny the fact that I do have those moody moments. Fortunately, I have learned to manage them somehow. It has helped me, and lessened the heavy cross my loved ones have to bear for love of me… I hail from a pair of quick tempered parents and handling the convergence of mood swings from all sides often takes a toll on me. This is why I made so many goals for myself this 2011.
Health is on top of my list, even above financial goals, since having good health is already wealth in itself. Hospitalization bills are something I cannot be prepared for right now. There are two things that help get me through emotionally exhausting phases: tears and deep breaths. Deep breaths and tears are free, and I particularly like visiting websites of people like Leo Babauta (Zen Habits, please see my “Online Lairs I Visit” page for the correct link)…
Eventually, once I had a good release, my own mercurial forces, when fully channeled, work to my benefit.
Goal 1: Exercise Bike.
Whew. Only one workout for January. I need to push myself more!
Goal 2: Stop biting my nails… to the point of improving nail appearance. It’s not so embarrassing to take a closeup photo of it now… I need to keep it up for a few more months and it’s another accomplished 43things goal for me.
Goal 3: Make an effort to take care of myself.
I am not really the type who likes hard core fashion stuff. I personally would rather spend the money on books than on makeup. I usually go to the office with just my favorite shade of lipstick, and everything else just has to be au naturel. But I am reconsidering some things, since I hated being called a mere “accident of nature” just because I don’t know how to make myself a little more presentable. The fingernails were a good start. I also try harder to find the best wardrobe that suits me. So yesterday, since it was payday, I decided to try out a salon which charges impossibly cheap prices. The name is Vallidosa salon; they have this purple and pink logo with lots of people in black inside.
They were super welcoming. I only planned to get a mani-pedi. But you know how it is in salons diba, the “NEEDS” just multiply all of a sudden.
So I found my feet becoming devirginized in the foot spa arena. hahaha. It was a very unusual and disorienting experience!
And then I had hair spa for my often unruly medium length hair:
I made the preparations to attend an event (which deserves a separate and more dignified post!), which made my Saturday so super…
Unfortunately, I think the right foot got a little over-scraped. I have very thin skin on my hands and feet, so I think that constant rubbing motion hurt a part of my right foot. Agh. I hobbled on the way out of Cabalen. So I had to go to SM with my feng shui BFF and colleague Katt and buy some comfy slip-ons… I was looking for an old trusty Islander slipper pair but I only got this:
I still cannot accept the new design of Islander. I favored the old design which was more thick than this. I think this model will not last long because it’s not as thick as the traditional Islander slippers. But it looks wonderful on my freshly scrubbed feet, so I don’t mind. hahaha. 😀
You might think I spent a lot. But let me just do the math here and show you that I am still in track of my financial goals of saving more money…
Hair Spa – 200
Foot Spa – 100
Tip to Super Fun Salon Attendants – 100
Islander new design slippers – 169
Under 700 pesos!
People like to use the word saving money in relation to their products and ask you to spend a lot with what they call “bargains” even when they are not really bargains. I don’t usually do this, but I might find myself doing it again sometime because I had so much fun!!!
It’s really good to take some time to pamper one’s self. It helps you get through all that stress. And it leaves you looking FRESH! 🙂
