My 12-Month-Long Love Affair with Everyday Eveready Battery

I’m not quite as lucky in romance, but I am quite lucky in choosing the right battery from age 0 to 25. If I can marry a battery, I’d marry an Eveready. Read on about my love affair with this battery, and you will see why I say that my ideal man must be like an Eveready battery.

In one’s life, there are the tiny things that actually help us achieve the big things. And you know what’s the most often neglected physical item that helped propel me to achieve what I have all these years of my life? It’s my trusty Eveready. It has served me well in my unbroken patronage of it. The black shiny cylindrical appearance, then with the cat-shaped logo, was not just another brand; it was also an emblem that marked my growing years.

Their latest tagline of Everyday Eveready this 2010 suits them truly. Their 25 of their 110 years in the Philippines has served me as a happy customer. It’s more than just a battery; it’s my partner in crime and the silent witness to the major benchmarks of my life these past 25 years. Journey with me as I take a trip down memory lane, and witness how my battery usage fares in each month of the year.

New Gizmo January

January is a fresh change for most people. It’s the time of new year and, for me, it is the time for new gadgets. When I was in high school, the newest gadgets were those battery-operated portable FM/AM radio and mp3 players. It’s the predecessor of today’s iPod. At the time, I often go to the supermarket to stock on AA batteries, four at a time, just to make sure the music keeps on playing. Reasonably priced, Eveready was the brand that allowed me to buy more running time for my new gadget and still have enough for eating merienda with my high school friends.

Sweet Recordings for February

The month of hearts is most memorable for a lot of people. I often think about the flowers I receive each year. But nothing beats the best ancient expression of love I have heard in my entire life: love messages from the voice recorder of my Tita Naty for Tito Beng. I was only two years old when they were in their courtship stage. Tita Naty often makes me sing for Tito Beng (who was then working in Saudi) after sending her love notes to my uncle, whom she is now married to. We used a lot of Eveready batteries then, and now they have four kids who are not just wonderful kids but also awesome cousins for me.

Catching Priceless Moments with March

I was in third year high school when my father first attended a school function. I was second honor in our entire batch at the time. It was 2001, and traditional cameras which blinded you with the flash were the trend. I still have those pictures in my album, taken from an old camera which is powered by no other than my trustworthy Eveready battery.

Beach Buddies for April

April is summer vacation month and a wonderful time for play. I remember the very first time I went to Splash Island. It was the best! I even had a moment to myself while trying to get a tan for my alabaster skin. In the midst of all the noisy sliding kids in the background, I found my moment of peace because I plugged in some relaxing music from my portable, battery-operated casette player. It made use of two size D Eveready batteries (the rectangular cube type of battery that powered the thing the entire time).

Lighting Up the Paths for May

Flores de Mayo is most memorable for me. From age 7 to age 16, I was always part of the sagala. We had well-decorated sidecars and frames to enhance the whole procession effect. But what made me stand out (aside from being Reyna Elena 80% of the time) were the durable 3D rechargeable lamps my parents and β€œfans” used instead of pollution-causing sulu lamps.

Transitioning Device for June

June was hell month for most of my studying days. It was the adjustment phase of my life, having climbed the academic ladder year in and year out. Without that Eveready-powered alarm clock for getting up in time for school, I would not stand a chance of reaching my classes on time. The most pressure came in my graduating years, where I almost ruined my alarm clock by the temptation to slam the snooze button for good.

Emergency-Wise July

July remains for me to be the year’s most rainy season. As such, my family and I keep our flashlight and emergency kit ready somewhere near the living room. Of course, part of the emergency kit are spare batteries for those unforetold moments. Ondoy may have happened on an October but making preparations that last the whole year round is the wisest way to go. Sure, it requires a little spending, but that pales in comparison to the security we feel in knowing we have flashlight and batteries in case things go dark and dreary.

Crunch Time Motivator for August Review

August will forever be marked in my memory as that month where I was preparing for the Geodetic Engineering board exam. My parents and my sister were often watching TV and having fun downstairs. At that time, what I did was climb up the room and wait for them to fall asleep. Since I can no longer use our home light to read up on the things I needed to memorize, I made use of Powerbooks special bookmark with built-in night light. It only required one AAA battery. I made sure to buy a box, but Eveready was quite longlasting and it matched my stamina that eventually led me to top the board exams the following month.

Party Complement for September

September is my birthday month. And there are many people in my network who are also born in the same month. You might be wondering what Eveready had to do with my birthday month. It powered my portable cellphone charger that allowed me to charge my cellphones even when I am not at home. It made sure I get to text my mom and safely arrive at my party destinations even in the wee hours of the morning. And the charger and battery fit well in my tiny purse.

Back at the time where I could not party, much less, change my own diapers, the very month when I was born in 1985, we had a battery operated night light to keep the mosquitoes away. I would have known what being pock-marked with rashes would look like on a baby like me, hadn’t it been for those night lamps that were powered by Eveready.

DVD Marathon Aide for October

October is the perfect time for having a fullblown DVD marathon of scary movies. And how lousy is a watching experience that will have to force you to bend over and adjust the DVD player in the heat of the action and suspense. Thankfully, my remote control is working well since it is powered by two AAA Eveready batteries. Many a slumber party participant for October has been grateful for the quick power off button when the scenes got too scary.

Diagnostic November

I don’t know for other people, but November is my tonsilitis and asthma month. And I often go to take a visit to my doctor to have everything checked. The worst facility I have had is when the doctor had to open my mouth too wide and strain to see the infection on my throat. I often went to my talented doctor who had an Eveready-powered penlight handy that made her job easier. Open your mouth WIIIIIDEEEE…

Diva Tool and Gift-Giving December

December is where we are now, and what better time to whip up that Magic Sing and belt out some Christmas tunes? Just in case you don’t know, a Magic Sing microphone requires two AAA batteries to work. I often run out of voice in singing, but the battery rarely gives up on me since it’s an Eveready battery.

It’s also the season to be merry, for giving gifts to the kids, especially my inaanaks. As a kid, I was totally bummed getting gifts from my ninong and ninang when they did not include Eveready batteries that will help me try the toy immediately. So when I became a ninang myself, I made sure that when I wrapped the RC powered toy car for my favorite inaanak last year, I included 8 pieces of AAA batteries for his immediate playing pleasure.

Eveready, if it were a guy, would have been my idea of a perfect guy. This battery brand has outlasted trends, outdone romances that only come and go, and like a true gentleman, has proven to be always there at the right time– the wind beneath my activities’ wings and the silent reliable backdrop that makes every experience colorful.

What woman would not want a man who is Everyday Eveready?
